parts: a message from the librarians

This is how the librarians try to ensure that parts are available each week for players and don't get lost:

  • The librarians prepare the music folders before the start of term so that each desk has a full set of parts. If any parts are not present then an explanatory note is included in the folder.

  • Each music folder is labeled as to which desk it is for and the parts in the folder are similarly identified. The folder and the music are the responsibility of the player(s) assigned to that specific desk.

  • Spare music, when there is any, is usually only extra string parts; occasionally double wind parts are provided.

Any spare music is not generally available at the rehearsal venue but can be made available by prior arrangement or collected after a rehearsal – contact Peter (cellist) in person or email

leaving and rejoining the orchestra

Sometimes members are unable to take part in the orchestra for a period of time but would like to return in the future. If you find yourself in this situation you should inform your section leader, or the Secretary, as soon as possible so that alternative arrangements can be made.

There are no hard and fast rules about how long your place would be kept open, but the Committee will discuss it with you before any decision is made.
